Jamila Zamir
Founder and Executive Director
Jamila Zamir is a prominent women’s rights advocate and social development leader with over 30 years of professional experience in women’s empowerment, child protection, education, livelihoods, and community development in Afghanistan and the region. She is the Founder and Executive Director of the Afghan Women Empowerment Program (AWEP).
Ms. Zamir holds a university degree in Science from Kabul University and has completed advanced studies in Management and Administration at the international level. Her strong academic background, combined with extensive field experience, has been instrumental in shaping AWEP’s effective and sustainable programs.
Under her leadership, AWEP has grown into a women-led, community-based, and trusted organization, reaching more than 50,000 beneficiaries—including women, men, and children—across multiple countries through education, livelihoods, and social support initiatives.
Her leadership is grounded in women’s leadership, sustainability, community ownership, transparency, and accountability, and she is strongly committed to Do No Harm, Safeguarding, Gender Equality, Social Inclusion, and Financial Transparency. She is fluent in Dari, Pashto, English, Swedish, and Norwegian.
