This project was the first of its kind to be implemented in Shewaki and Benihesar areas of Kabul, and as such a much needed intervention in increasing health awareness among women in the community. As a direct result of this project, women reported being more informed and proactive about their basic reproductive health needs and risks as well as the health needs of their families. In addition, the women reported adopting an improved and healthy family diet based on their improved knowledge of nutritional needs. They also reported achieving high levels of self-confidence and receiving greater respect from their families. Many also noted that the ability to teach or advise others in health and other practices was a source of pride and social respect.
